Best Exhaust for Ford Ranger — Find the Right Fit for Your Rig
If you own a Ford Ranger you already know it's one of the most capable Utes on Australian roads. Whether you're running it as a daily driver, towing a camper trailer on weekends or pushing it hard on corrugated outback tracks the factory exhaust is one of the first things holding it back. It's designed to meet noise regulations and keep costs down not to unlock the performance your engine is actually capable of.
At Outback Exhausts we've been building Australian made exhaust systems specifically for the Ford Ranger for years. Every system is fabricated from 409 stainless steel, ADR compliant and backed by our 5 year warranty. No generic fitments, no guesswork just a system engineered for your exact engine and model year.
Here's a breakdown of every Ford Ranger exhaust system we offer, what it does and how to pick the right one for your build.

1. DPF Back Exhaust — Ford Ranger Next Gen 2.0L Bi-Turbo (2022 On)
The Next Gen Ranger's 2.0L bi-turbo is a cracking engine but the factory exhaust is restrictive from the DPF back. Our system opens up the flow, improves exhaust note and gives you a noticeable improvement in throttle response without touching the DPF itself.

Please note that this upgrade is only suited to competition or dedicated off-road builds like farm, mine and other off-road use only.

Turbo Back vs DPF Back — Which One Do You Need?
This is the most common question we get and the answer depends on your Ranger's generation and what you're trying to achieve.
DPF Back systems replace everything from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to the tailpipe. They're the right choice if your Ranger has a DPF fitted from the factory (generally 2015 onwards). They're also easier to fit and a great starting point for most builds.
Turbo Back systems replace everything from the turbo outlet all the way back. They deliver the maximum possible flow improvement and are the go to choice for tuned builds, serious towing rigs or anyone who wants the best possible performance and sound. On pre-DPF models this is the standard upgrade path.
With a DPF equipped engine a turbo-back system (which removes the DPF and is intended for off-road/farm/mines/competition use only. Removing DPF makes the car not road worthy). We offer both:

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a turbo back and a DPF back exhaust?
A turbo back system replaces everything from the turbo outlet to the tip including the DPF section. It's the most comprehensive upgrade and delivers the biggest performance gains, but it does remove the DPF. A turbo back solution for a DPF equipped car is for off-road, farm or mine use only. However turbo back solutions for pre-DPF cars are available. A DPF back system replaces everything from the DPF outlet back leaving the DPF in place. It's a good option if you want to retain your emissions equipment or if your DPF is still in good condition.
Do these systems fit without modification?
Yes all of our Ranger systems are bolt on replacements using the factory mounting points. No cutting or custom fabrication is required.
How long does installation take?
A straightforward DPF-back or turbo-back installation typically takes 1 to 3 hours at a workshop. All our systems come with the hardware needed for a direct bolt on fit.
Can I fit an Outback Exhausts system myself?
Our systems are designed as direct bolt on replacements. If you're mechanically confident and have access to a hoist or jack stands fitting is straightforward. That said we always recommend having exhaust work done by a qualified mechanic to ensure correct fitment and avoid exhaust leaks.
Do I need a tune after fitting a new exhaust?
For most stock or mildly modified Rangers a tune isn't strictly required after an exhaust upgrade alone. However if you're combining the exhaust with other modifications like an intake, intercooler or EGR work a tune will help you extract the full benefit of the combined package.
What warranty do these systems carry?
All of our stainless steel exhaust systems carry a 5year warranty. We stand behind the quality of our materials and workmanship.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes we ship to all states and territories. Most metro orders arrive within 3–5 business days. Regional and remote areas may take a little longer.
We also ship internationally if you're ordering from overseas get in touch to confirm shipping options and freight costs.
