Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1-  Why should I buy OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM? There are many other cheaper alternatives available in the market

OUTBACK EXHAUSTS  are proudly made in Australia by our local team based in SE Queensland. There are multiple reasons to buy an OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM:

  • It is a quality product  where the tubing is mandrel bent to ensure optimum air flow.
  • The material is SS 409 which is the material of choice of all OEMs and lasts the life of the car.
  • All the parts are painted in a heat resistant paint to provide extra protection.
  • The system comes with a 5 year warranty except the extractors which comes with 2 years manufacturing warranty. However the systems lasts much longer.
  • Fitting kit is provided as standard with each system.

2-  I am on budget and don't want to spend that much on an exhaust system.

Quality remains long after price is forgotten.

Outback Exhausts are not the cheapest option, but they are also not the most expensive in the industry. Each system is proudly manufactured in Australia by a skilled local team.

While the upfront cost may seem high, it proves to be more cost-effective over the lifespan of the exhaust. Due to the higher quality material 9 SS409) and development procedures.

Since the installation cost is the same for both an Outback Exhaust System and a lower-priced alternative, the longevity of an Outback system—lasting 3-4 times longer—makes it a better investment.

Cheaper alternatives typically cost around 60-70% of an Outback Exhaust System but often fail within 24 months, even with careful driving and no off-road use, making Outback the smarter long-term choice. Please reads the Blog at LINK

3- Does an OUTBACK EXHAUST performance exhaust system enhance vehicle performance?

It is claimed by the customers that an OUTBACK EXHAUST Performance Exhaust boosts the power, torque, and fuel efficiency of any vehicle it is installed on.

Pre DPF Vehicles experiences a more significant increase in power and torque compared to those with a DPF.

Various tests have been conducted by the third parties and the information is available online. OUTBACK EXHAUST  are in process of conducting these tests and the results will be made available shortly.

4-Can a DPF-back exhaust improve performance and enhance Note?

It is claimed by the customers that an OUTBACK EXHAUST'S DPF-back performance exhaust delivers power gains and a deep exhaust note.

The level of power increase depends on the specific vehicle. Various tests have been conducted by the third parties and the information is available online.

5-  Will an OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM fit my vehicle if I have aftermarket accessories?

In most cases, the Outback Exhaust system  is designed to fit around aftermarket accessories. These systems are deigned in collaboration with various companies in the 4WD industry to ensure compatibility with modified vehicles. Our systems fit with long range fuel tanks, aftermarket side steps, air bag suspension etc.

In specific cases where the Outback exhausts system doesn't fit with the aftermarket accessories, it is mentioned  in the product information on the exhaust system page. Note that these are the instances where we are aware of the fitment issues, however due to the very high number of aftermarket accessories available not all the cases are known.

7- I believe a magnet doesn't stick to stainless steel however it sticks on the OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM. which makes me believe it is mild steel.

SS 409 is magnetic due to its ferritic stainless steel composition. Unlike austenitic stainless steels (such as SS 304), which are non-magnetic. Therefore SS409 sticks to a magnet.

SS 409 contains iron and chromium but lacks significant amounts of nickel, making it naturally magnetic. This property does not affect its durability or performance in exhaust systems, where it remains a popular choice for its heat resistance, strength, and cost-effectiveness.

Stainless Steel 409 offers excellent resistance to heat and corrosion, making it ideal for high-temperature applications like exhaust components.

While SS 409 may develop surface rust over time, it maintains its structural integrity and is widely preferred for performance and 4x4 exhausts due to its strength, longevity, and affordability compared to higher-grade stainless steels like SS 304.

8-  I haven't installed an exhaust system before. Can I install an OUTBACK EXHAUST  system on my own?

Outback exhaust systems are designed to be mounted on the OEM chassis mounts. Fitting require no cutting or welding onsite. The systems are directly bolt on. As long as you have all the required tools and can access the stock exhaust you can install it yourself.

Note that DPF back systems are easy to install than the Turbo back systems which may require installation from an experienced mechanic. It is always recommended to get an experienced mechanic to install the system.

9-  Do I need to buy any fasteners etc. to install the OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM?

No you don't need to buy any fasteners etc. OUTBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM, comes with a fitting kit containing all the necessary gaskets and fasteners. You have to reuse the Turbo Gasket as it is not included in the kit.

10-The exhaust is hitting the mudguard / side step brackets what should I do?

Whilst the exhausts are designed to cater for the aftermarket accessories, it is sometimes necessary to trim the certain objects to fit a wider diameter exhaust pipe. Trimming these objects does not impact the functionality of those accessories.

11-Why isn’t the hanger lining up with the bracket, or why is the exhaust pipe uneven?

Refer to the fitting notes provided with the Exhaust system. Alternatively it can be downloaded here.

Start by loosely fitting the exhaust, ensuring all mounts are properly seated on their rubber hangers. Once everything is in place, begin tightening the bolts from the back of the vehicle, moving forward. Carefully adjust and position each section as you go.

This method prevents losing small amounts of clearance at each flange, which can cause the exhaust to sit incorrectly by the time you reach the tailpipe.

Outback exhausts are manufactured with precision and checked against the original jig, so incorrect bends or angles are highly unlikely.

If the exhaust is rubbing or making contact with the vehicle, loosen the nearby flanges and use a spacer to create space where it's rubbing with the chassis. Gradually tighten the flanges back up, then remove the spacer—this will provide the extra clearance needed.

12-The exhaust is hitting the heat shield what should I do?

Heat shield is a flexible sheet to provide thermal resistance. If it is rubbing off the exhaust system then push it a bit away by using a pry bar or hammer to provide the clearance

13-The nuts and bolts are rusty and it is hard to take them off the stock exhaust. what should I do?

Spraying of WD40 or similar product on the rusty nuts and bolts is strongly recommended. Leave the spray for a few minutes and they should be comparatively easier to remove. If you can plan your installation a  few days beforehand, begin by spraying the bolts with WD40 or similar product when they are cold. Drive the vehicle as usual and repeat the cycle for a few days. After a few hot / cold cycles and plenty of lubricant generally they are very easy to remove on the day of your installation.

14-  Is removing a DPF illegal?

Yes, removing a DPF from a vehicle is illegal in Australia. It will invalidate your insurance and render your vehicle unroadworthy. If caught with a DPF delete, you could face significant fines and costly repair bills.

A DPF delete can be used for off-road racing purposes or by holders of ADR exemptions, Primary Producer Exemptions in Australia, ADF vehicles, certain mining vehicles, or overseas vehicles that are not subject to ADR standards. Once the DPF is removed, the vehicle no longer complies with ADR regulations and should not be operated on or off-road in Australia, unless one of the above conditions applies.
