Best Exhaust for Mazda BT-50 — The Complete Guide

If you own a Mazda BT-50 and you're chasing more grunt, a better exhaust note or just want to free up some of that restricted factory flow you're in the right place. Whether you're running the older 3.0L WEAT, the popular 3.2L P5AT or the newer 3.0L 4JJ3 there's a purpose built exhaust system from Outback Exhausts that's been designed specifically for your engine not adapted from something else.

All our BT-50 exhaust systems are manufactured from premium 409 stainless steel in our Narangba, Queensland facility. Each system is developed on real BT-50 vehicles by our in-house design team, using the original factory mounting points to guarantee accurate fitment, long-term durability and a hassle-free installation.

Why Upgrade Your Mazda BT-50 Exhaust?

The factory exhaust on the BT-50 is designed around noise, emissions and cost not performance. It's restrictive by nature. When you swap it out for a mandrel bent,  larger diameter stainless system you're giving the engine room to breathe. The results are real: better throttle response, improved torque delivery (especially in the mid-range where you need it most when towing or loaded up) and a sound that actually matches the capability of the truck.

Beyond performance, a quality stainless exhaust simply lasts longer. The factory mild steel systems corrode especially if you're doing beach runs or river crossings. Our 409 stainless steel systems are built to outlast the vehicle.

Turbo Back vs DPF Back — Which One Do You Need?

This is the question we get asked most often and the honest answer is: it depends on how you use the truck and what you're comfortable with legally.

A turbo-back system replaces everything from the turbo outlet back including the DPF (diesel particulate filter) on newer models. It gives you the maximum flow improvement and the biggest performance gain. Please note turbo back systems are for off-road/exempt use only see disclaimer below.

A DPF-back system starts from behind the DPF and replaces the mid-pipe and muffler section. You keep your DPF , still get a meaningful improvement in flow and sound over the factory system. For most daily drivers and tourers this is the right call.

What Makes Outback Exhausts Different?

There's no shortage of exhaust options online but most of what you'll find is imported, generic or adapted from a similar vehicle. Here's what sets our systems apart:

  • Australian-made: Every system is manufactured in Australia not imported and relabelled.
  • 409 stainless steel: Corrosion-resistant and built for the long haul beach runs, river crossings and red dirt roads included.
  • Mandrel-bent tubing: No crush bends. Smooth, consistent flow through every curve in the system.
  • Direct fit: Engineered specifically for each BT-50 engine variant not a universal system with adapters.
  • Multiple configurations: Choose your sound level and CAT setup to match your use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a tune after fitting a new exhaust?

For most BT-50 owners a tune isn't strictly required after a DPF-back exhaust the ECU will adapt. However, if you're running a turbo-back system or combining the exhaust with other mods (intake, intercooler) a diesel tune will help you get the most out of the setup.

How long does installation take?

A straightforward DPF-back or turbo-back installation typically takes 1 to 2 hours at a workshop. All our systems come with the hardware needed for a direct bolt-on fit.

Can I fit an Outback Exhausts system myself?

Our systems are designed as direct bolt-on replacements. If you're mechanically confident and have access to a hoist or jack stands fitting is straightforward. That said we always recommend having exhaust work done by a qualified mechanic to ensure correct fitment and avoid exhaust leaks.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes we ship to all states and territories. Most metro areas receive their order within 2–5 business days. We also ship internationally if you're ordering from overseas get in touch to confirm shipping options and freight costs.
