105 Series Landcruiser Exhaust Systems — Australian Made

105 Series Landcruiser Exhaust Systems — Australian Made

If you own a 105 Series Landcruiser you already know it's one of the most capable 4x4s ever built. Whether you're running a naturally aspirated 1HZ diesel, a 1FZ-FE petrol or you've bolted on a turbo upgrade the 105 is a platform that rewards good modifications and the exhaust system is one of the best places to start.

At Outback Exhausts, we engineer and manufacture all our 105 Series systems right here in Australia. No generic imports no guesswork just systems built specifically for your engine and your driving conditions. Here's a breakdown of what we offer and how to choose the right setup for your rig.

Which engine does your 105 Series run?

The 105 Series was produced from 1998 to 2007 and came with three main engine options. Getting the right exhaust starts with knowing which one you've got:

  • 1HZ 4.2L naturally aspirated diesel — the workhorse. Reliable, torquey and very common in Australia.
  • 1HZ with factory or DTS turbo upgrade — a popular modification that transforms the 1HZ into a genuinely strong performer.
  • 1FZ-FE 4.5L naturally aspirated petrol — smooth, powerful and a favourite for those who prefer petrol.

Each engine has different exhaust requirements so let's go through them one by one.

1HZ Naturally Aspirated Diesel — HZJ105

The 1HZ is a tough old engine but from the factory it's pretty restricted in the exhaust department. Fitting a quality extractor and a mandrel bent 2.5" system makes a noticeable difference better throttle response, lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) and a deeper more satisfying exhaust note.

Outback Exhausts offer two options for the naturally aspirated HZJ105:

  • 1HZ Extractor (Header) — a bolt on performance header engineered specifically for the HZJ105. Improves exhaust scavenging and reduces heat build up in the engine bay.
  • 2.5" Exhaust System with Extractor — HZJ105 1HZ Diesel — the complete package. Extractor plus a full 2.5" mandrel bent system made from 409 stainless steel. Bolt on fitment using original mounting points no welding required.

If you're towing a caravan or camper trailer regularly reducing EGTs should be your number one priority. A proper extractor and free-flowing exhaust is one of the most cost effective ways to do it.

1HZ with Turbo Upgrade — Factory Turbo or DTS Turbo

Fitting a turbo to a 1HZ is one of the most popular upgrades for 105 Series owners and for good reason it transforms the engine. But a turbo upgrade without a proper exhaust system is leaving serious performance on the table.

For turbocharged HZJ105s, you need a 3" turbo-back system to handle the increased exhaust flow. We make two variants depending on your turbo setup:

Not sure whether you need the factory turbo or DTS variant? Check your turbo kit documentation or give us a call we're happy to help you spec the right system.

1FZ-FE 4.5L Petrol — FZJ105

The 1FZ-FE is a naturally aspirated inline six petrol engine and it responds really well to exhaust upgrades. A quality extractor improves exhaust scavenging across the rev range and combined with a free flowing 2.5" system you'll notice better mid range pull and a much more enjoyable exhaust note.

Why Australian made matters

Every system we make is manufactured here in Australia from 409 stainless steel with mandrel bent tubing. Mandrel bending keeps the tube diameter consistent through every bend no crimping and no restriction. The result is smoother exhaust flow, better performance and a system that's built to handle Australian conditions.

All our systems are designed as bolt-on fitments using your existing mounting points. No cutting, no welding and no drama.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size exhaust does a 105 Series Landcruiser need?

It depends on your engine. Naturally aspirated 1HZ and 1FZ-FE engines are well served by a 2.5" system. If you've fitted a turbo to your 1HZ you should step up to a 3" turbo back system to handle the increased exhaust flow and get the most from your turbo upgrade.

Does a 1HZ diesel benefit from an extractor?

Absolutely. The factory manifold on the 1HZ is quite restrictive. A performance extractor improves exhaust scavenging reduces EGTs and gives the engine more room to breathe especially useful if you're towing or running in hot conditions.

Will the 1FZ-FE exhaust fit with a long range tank?

No our 1FZ-FE extractor-back system will not fit if a long range fuel tank is installed. If you're running a long range tank, get in touch and we can discuss your options.

What's the difference between the factory turbo and DTS turbo exhaust systems?

The factory turbo system suits 105 Series wagons running the OEM turbo conversion or 1HDFTV engine. The DTS turbo system is engineered specifically for the DTS turbo upgrade kit, which has different turbo positioning and outlet dimensions. Using the wrong system can cause fitment issues, so it's worth confirming your setup before ordering.

Are your exhausts made in Australia?

Yes. Outback Exhausts are proudly Australian-made. We manufacture our systems locally using premium materials and every system is built to suit Australian conditions.

Can I fit the exhaust myself?

If you're mechanically confident and have the right tools (including a vehicle lift or ramps) a DIY install is achievable. Most of our customers have the system fitted by a local exhaust shop or 4x4 workshop.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes we ship to all states and territories across Australia. Most metro areas receive their order within 2–5 business days.

We also ship to international destinations. If you're ordering from overseas, please call or get in touch with us to confirm shipping options and freight costs.
